Coolidge Streets and Utilities News April 2024

There is a lot of activity taking place with our streets and utilities and we wanted to let you know what is going on in town.

Maybe you noticed some work being done on South Magnolia and East Arbutus in the past few weeks. The city, working with the county and state, repaved these streets using a combination of funds from the state Local Maintenance and Improvement Grant (LMIG) and the Special Option Sales Tax repaved these two streets at a cost of approximately $120,000.

The state approved supplemental funding for cities and counties which will be used for additional projects. The additional funding for 2024 for Coolidge will be approximately $15,000.

The City Council awarded a contract in the amount of $713,365.00 for work at the sewer treatment pond. Work will begin after the city engineer and city staff meet with the contractor to finalize the plan. Stay tuned to our website for updates.

The city was awarded a grant/loan from the Georgia Environmental Financing Agency in the amount of approximately $15,000 to conduct an inventory of the service lines in the city utilities to determine how many lines have lead or copper and need to be replaced for public health. This is in addition to a grant of approximately $75,000 already approved for this project.

The City will be applying for additional grants through the office of Congressman Sanford Bishop to repair and replace some of the city's aging sewer lines. We'll keep you informed if this grant is approved.

The Mayor and Council have new ideas and new projects that will be coming out as we are able to get funding. We strive to keep our citizens informed about the services you receive from the city.
