For the past several years, the City of Coolidge has contracted with the city of Thomasville to pick up garbage and yard and leaf trimmings. Coolidge pays Thomasville $13.00 per garbage container for the yard and leaf trimmings and charges residential users $14.00.
In the past Coolidge has only charged residential users for the yard and leaf trimmings. Coolidge did not pass the cost on to business customers, churches, and apartment complexes. The difference between what the city pays Thomasville and what we collect from customers adds up to about $5,000 per year. Due to budget constraints, the city will begin passing the cost on for businesses, churches, and apartment complexes just as the costs are passed on to residential customers.
The additional $14.00 per container will show up on this bill for business customers, churches, and apartments. There are no changes for residential customers.
Some customers have asked if they could opt out of the yard trimming fee. Thomasville bills on a per container basis and there is no opt out for the city; therefore we cannot provide an opt out for the end users.
